There has been much in the media about the Western Sydney Airport development and its construction. Whilst there are many different issues with the build, the major issue for the construction crews was actually communications.
Essential Communications Services was called in by an existing client to assist at this project where mobile voice, mobile data and TV signal was patchy at best.
It was supposed to be a three day install but the “whilst you’re here, can you do” factor came in to play and we spent a total of 10 days at this site.
For the mobile voice we installed 2 x RFI Technology Solutions 12dBi LPDA Antenna’s, through 2 x N Male to Female Phaseblocker (lightning arresters) & 2 x Telco Antennas 3M serviceable masts via LCU400 Coaxial Cable to 2 x Nextivity Cel-Fi GO31’s connected to a total of 3 x RFI Technology Solutions Omni Directional DAS Ceiling Antenna’s that, as these office units (portable office spaces) did not have any actual ceiling space, were mounted to 3 x acrylic boxes that were modified for this purpose. It allows cabling to flow through without major bends that could damage the cable and cause signal issues. One DAS was connected to a single Cel-Fi unit and the other Cel-fi was connected to two DAS units.
For the mobile broadband we installed a Panorama Antennas Ltd 4×4 MIMO 3G 4G 5G Directional Panel Antenna cabled down to the client’s existing Cradlepoint 5G Modem in their server rack.
The “whilst you’re here” factor came in to play when we were asked to re-cable from the site’s water treatment plant tanks back to the plant room, a distance of 200m, where the cable had to be encased in conduit the entire length. This run of cable was “overhead” on capillary cabling, trenched through the car park, then ran underneath three separate office units, a very muddy job.
In the end, the client got the install that they wanted, the staff were happy that they now had stable mobile voice & internet and the training team were thankful that they could now stream the training videos without buffering.
