Decommissioning road works communications tower

What goes up must come down. As parts of Victoria’s “Big Build” come to a close, Road Works Compounds need to move on to new locations. Essential Communications Services initially set up this tower at Koo Wee Rup in January 2022.

This part of the project has been completed and so now the compound needs to move to another site to continue on with the works, therefore the tower needed to come down.

As the tower is 21 metres tall and had it’s communications infrastructure at the very top, we needed to use an 80ft Knuckle Reach boom lift to ensure the safety of our network engineer doing the removal.

Our senior network engineer is fully Worksafe accredited for this work & holds all the appropriate Worksafe High risk, Work at heights & construction induction worksafe tickets as is all our of harness gear fully worksafe compliant.

With any tower, it’s best to start at the top with bringing it down. Our senior network engineer 1st removed the GPS Antenna as well as the Microwave Link prior to starting the removal of the stabilising guy wires. Each section of the mast is three (3) metres long, but as it is aluminium it is fairly light.

Originally this tower was deployed at the Upper Yarra Dam works site https://www.essentialcomms.net.au/yarra-valley-mobile-voice-broadband/ and once this site had finished it was moved to the Koo Wee Rup site.

This tower is in storage at our office for the moment prior to being deployed at another site with limited connectivity.

If you have a communications & telecommunications infrastructure challenge please do not hesitate to get in touch with Essential Communications Services, it would be our pleasure to be of assistance to you anywhere in Australia.
